Question 1

Because HTML does not have the signs used to indicate long and short syllables, the answers to questions on scansion are presented in the following way:

Each line is presented with individual syllables divided by a dash ( - ) and with feet marked by a vertical line ( | ).

The metrical pattern is shown separately with longer dashes (–) indicating long syllables and asterisks (*) indicating short ones.

The reader should write out each line separately and mark the long and short syllables in the normal way as given in the TY Latin.

Question 2

(i) If you had done this, I would not have come.

(ii) If you had done this, I would be angry with you.

(iii) If you were doing this (i.e. now), I would be angry with you.

(iv) If you were to do this, I would be angry with you.

(v) If you have done this, I am angry with you.

(vi) If you do this, I shall be angry with you.

In (iv) facias is subj. and so irascar must also be subj. (pres.), not fut. ind.; in (vi) the form feceris can be either perf. subj. or fut. perf. – it cannot be the former here because irascar would then have to be pres. subj. but in no conditional sentence can we have a perf. subj. in the si clause and a pres. subj. in the main clause; therefore feceris must be fut. perf. will have done and irascar fut. ind.
